After they pick up their lunch trays from the cafeteria window, Beardsley fourth graders scurry back to their lunch table. The first students back get their choice of seats and on Fridays it's typically next to the ladies in the red T-shirts.
The red-shirted volunteers are part of the Lunch Mates for Better Nutrition program, a collaborative effort of Elkhart Community Schools, Elkhart General Hospital and the Elkhart County Health Department. The program, in its fourth year, is also offered at Beck and Woodland.
