Elkhart’s Plan Options for Students (Effective 02-24-2021)

Plan 1 / In-Person

  • On February 23, 2021, the Elkhart Community Schools Board of School Trustees approved the return to a Monday through Thursday (four-day) in-person school week for students currently attending in-person on the hybrid schedule.
  • Elementary students (grades K-6) will return to a four-day school week on Monday, March 8.
  • Secondary students (grades 7-12) will return to a four-day school week on Monday, March 15.
  • Fridays will remain eLearning days for all students.
  • Details about safeguards can be found in the ECS Re-Entry Plan.
  • Requests for changes to a student’s schedule can be made by contacting Instructional Leadership at 574-262-5559.

 

Plan 2 / All Virtual Plan

  • Students must be available during normal school hours (elementary – 8:35am to 3:35pm; secondary – 7:25am to 2:40pm).
  • The individual virtual classroom schedule of instructional time, classroom discussion, virtual small group work, hands-on work, and independent work will vary by teacher, as it would in any traditional classroom.

Information for Remote Learning (eLearning, Virtual Learning)

  • Student Landing Page
    • This helpful page for students is where they can reset their Google password and access various learning platforms.
  • If your student is in elementary school, the primary app will be Seesaw. To log in to Seesaw, a student will use their school email and password. 
  • If your student is in middle school or high school, the primary app will be Canvas. To log in to Canvas, a student will use their school email and password.
  • In the event your student deletes an app or it is missing, you can reinstall it by going into the ‘Self Service’ app on your child’s iPad. All of the apps in Self Service are free and accessible to all ECS students.  Teachers have the discretion to use additional apps. 

 

Seesaw (Grades K-6)

  • Students in ECS elementary schools (K-6) will use Seesaw as their primary digital learning platform, for students enrolled in Plan 1 (alternating days, for the eLearning days) and Plan 2 (virtual learning).
  • Students will have Seesaw as an app on their iPad and be automatically logged in on their devices.
  • If a student accidentally logs out of their iPad, the parent will need to reach out to the child’s teacher.

Canvas (Grades 7-12)

  • Students in ECS secondary schools (grades 7-12) will use Canvas as their primary digital learning platform for students enrolled in Plan 1 (alternating days, for the eLearning days) and Plan 2 (virtual learning).

ScootPad

 

PowerSchool

  • PowerSchool is Elkhart Community Schools’ primary student management system that includes information about grades, test scores, absences/tardies, lunch money balances, and more.
  • Contact information and contact preferences can be updated in PowerSchool through the ABC: Annual Back-to-School Check-in icon in the PowerSchool menu. We recommend this process to be completed on a computer or iPad. Please do not use the phone app for this process.
