Information for Remote Learning (eLearning, Virtual Learning)
This helpful page for students is where they can reset their Google password and access various learning platforms.
If your student is in elementary school, the primary app will be Seesaw. To log in to Seesaw, a student will use their school email and password.
If your student is in middle school or high school, the primary app will be Canvas. To log in to Canvas, a student will use their school email and password.
In the event your student deletes an app or it is missing, you can reinstall it by going into the ‘Self Service’ app on your child’s iPad. All of the apps in Self Service are free and accessible to all ECS students. Teachers have the discretion to use additional apps.
Seesaw (Grades K-6)
Students in ECS elementary schools (K-6) will use Seesaw as their primary digital learning platform, for students enrolled in Plan 1 (alternating days, for the eLearning days) and Plan 2 (virtual learning).
Students will have Seesaw as an app on their iPad and be automatically logged in on their devices.
If a student accidentally logs out of their iPad, the parent will need to reach out to the child’s teacher.
Students in ECS secondary schools (grades 7-12) will use Canvas as their primary digital learning platform for students enrolled in Plan 1 (alternating days, for the eLearning days) and Plan 2 (virtual learning).
Students will have Canvas as an app on their iPad and be automatically logged in on their devices.
PowerSchool is Elkhart Community Schools’ primary student management system that includes information about grades, test scores, absences/tardies, lunch money balances, and more.
Contact information and contact preferences can be updated in PowerSchool through the ABC: Annual Back-to-School Check-in icon in the PowerSchool menu. We recommend this process to be completed on a computer or iPad. Please do not use the phone app for this process.
With the ECS Hybrid Plan (Plan 1), students will physically attend school two days per week and participate in eLearning on the other three days.
Group A students: Attend in person on Mondays and Wednesdays. Group A students will participate in eLearning on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Group B students: Attend in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Group B students will participate in eLearning on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Students who attend in-person classes will see:
Classrooms have been spaced out to provide 6′ of social distancing wherever possible.
Reminders about hand washing, social distancing, arrows to help with directions in hallways, and signs about masks.
Students will be required to wear masks at all times in all community areas, including hallways, restrooms, offices, cafeteria lines, and buses.
Per the guidelines established by Indiana Governor Holcomb’s Executive Order 20-37, students will be allowed opportunities to remove their masks when they are at their desks and working independently, if seated at least 6′ apart. These opportunities are possible due to the smaller number of students in attendance (approximately 3,250 in 20 buildings on any given day compared to 12,000 per day in 2019-2020). Students will also be allowed to remove their masks while eating.
Students should plan to be available during normal school hours (elementary – 8:35am to 3:35pm; secondary – 7:25am to 2:40pm).
The individual virtual classroom schedule of instructional time, classroom discussion, virtual small group work, hands-on work, and independent work will vary by teacher, as it would in any traditional classroom.
