Paraprofessional Certification Information
All ECS Paraprofessionals need to have completed at least 2 years (48 credit hours or more) of study at an institution of higher education, or obtained an associate’s degree (or higher), or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal State or local assessment; (a) knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics or (b) knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness. Elkhart Community Schools will consider paraprofessional applicants who have not completed a minimum of 2 years of study at an institution of higher education when they have passed the Para Pro Test. Contact Marcia Hiatt in the Personnel Office at 262-5510 for information concerning online test availability with Elkhart Community Schools. Appointments to take the test must be made in advance. The cost for the test is $50 and is payable only by credit card. Study guides are available online, and may be available at your local library.
