North Side Middle School is home to an incredible media center – a fun place for students, staff and volunteers to gather, collaborate and research. Equipped with the latest technology, as well as a highly-trained staff, guests of the North Side media center will find a world of opportunity awaits them. Performing Arts

North Side Middle School boasts one of the top middle school music programs in the state. North Side offers music curriculum to all seventh and eighth grade students who elect to be in band, orchestra, or choir. These applied music year-long courses are designed to deliver a curriculum aligned to the National Music Standards and the Indiana State Music Standards.
Music students are exposed to a wide variety of music from classical to pop. Groups and individuals compete in ISSMA Contest events each year and have a reputation for continued excellence. Currently there are over 300 students enrolled in the bands, orchestras and choirs at North Side.

 

National Junior Honor Society

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is more than just an honor roll. The Honor Society chapter establishes rules for membership that are based upon a student’s outstanding performance in the areas of: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship. These criteria for selection form the foundation upon which the organization and its activities are built.

  • Scholarship
    • 3.8 (cumulative GPA for the first 2 trimesters of 7th grade)
  • Service
    • Volunteers, dependable and well organized
    • Works well with others
    • Is always willing to accept responsibility and in a cheerful, courteous way
    • Helps carry class participation and offer to help others who need assistance.
    • Renders any service to school or others even at the sacrifice to themselves
  • Leadership
    • Good problem solver, promotes school or class activities
    • Dependable in leadership role
    • Exercises positive influence on peers in upholding school ideals
    • Demonstrates academic initiative
    • Person who exemplifies positive attitudes about life
  • Character
    • Upholds principals of morality and ethics
    • High standards of honesty in all phases of school and personal life
    • Shows true respect for others (adults and peers)
    • Shows real concern for others well being and seeks to help others in need
    • Shows courage to stand up for what is right
  • Citizenship
    • Has high regard for justice
    • Understands importance of civic duty (whether at school or in community)
    • Understands and practices the principles of democracy (such as equality of all students’ ideas in the classroom).

Following notification, an induction ceremony is held to recognize newly selected members. Once inducted, new members are required to maintain the same level of performance in all five criteria that led to their selection. This obligation includes regular attendance at chapter meetings held during the school year and participation in chapter service projects.
