Mental Health First Aid Training June 13 & 14

You are more likely to encounter a person in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack. Would you know what to do?

The Elkhart County Health Department is offering the Mental Health First Aid USA training in June. This training is designed for the average community member to help them recognize and assist a family member, friend or client in need. This is similar to First Aid in that you would be the initial contact to the injured or hurting individual, but then refer them to the appropriate professionals for treatment.

The June training will be held at the Elkhart County Health Department, 608 Oakland Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 13 and 14. The cost is $20.

Participants will learn the potential warning signs and risk factors for depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychotic disorders, eating disorders, and substance use disorders; a five-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect to professional care; and resources available to help someone with a mental health problem.
