Realtor Support Page

First and foremost, thank you for your continued efforts to improve the quality of life in Elkhart by providing people with pathways to homeownership. Establishing a home in Elkhart is an excellent decision for any family, and we are happy to support your efforts in selling homes in Elkhart. We recognize that a school district is one of the most important criteria for a potential homebuyer when considering where to buy a home. We hope the following information will be useful to you in helping homebuyers recognize the excellence of Elkhart Community Schools, and provide a tool for those selling homes in the Elkhart Community Schools district.

School Boundaries

One of the most common requests we hear from realtors is school verification. We are excited to introduce an online address look-up tool:

  • Address Look-up Tool
    • Once you’ve looked up the three schools for your home, please see below to print one-page highlights of each school.
    • If a home is on the edge of the school boundary, we encourage you to verify by contacting our student services department at 574-262-5540.
  • For information on School Walk Zones, please see our Transportation page.

School District Literature

For all literature, please click on the image to open a high-resolution PDF version, suitable for printing.

We are happy to introduce a comprehensive 16-page district brochure for realtor use. This brochure highlights the academic programs at Elkhart Community Schools, including AP class offerings, dual credit offerings, and CTE (career technical education) programs. The brochure also highlights travel opportunities at the district, as well as athletic and club offerings.

Professionally printed copies can be ordered through the following link: link to form. We are happy to mail or drop copies off at your office.

ECS Brochure Cover

We have also created single-page flyers for all 21 schools in our district. It is our hope that when you are selling a home, you will consider printing a flyer for the home’s elementary, middle, and high school to include in your folders, so potential buyers can have a better understanding of the schools where the home resides.

School Letter Grades & Testing

Recognizing that a school is more than a simple “letter grade,” a test grade, or review on a website, we’ve created the following white paper as information for realtors: School Letter Grades and Ratings: What they really represent and the challenge of overcoming them.

The Future Elkhart High School

Another question we’re commonly hearing is about the unification of Elkhart Central and Elkhart Memorial high schools, and what it means for the future of our district. We’re excited to be leading the state in the development of wall-to-wall pathways. Our six schools of study will provide students with an opportunity to identify their interests and learn to their passion, in a meaningful way for their learning style.

Each school will contain a business advisory group who will help determine curriculum to ensure students are learning material that is relevant for their future careers. This model is incredibly successful at our Elkhart Area Career Center.

For additional information about our Six Schools of Study (Arts & Communication; Business and International Relations; Engineering, Technology, and Industry; Health & Public Safety; Human Services; Natural Resources), please see the following. The unification of high schools is scheduled for Fall 2020.

Schools of Study Examples

Within the Elkhart High School 10-12 grade campus, students will learn to their passion and interests.

For example, if a student believes she may want to be a realtor, we would encourage her to find her educational home in our School of Business and International Relations. Here, she’ll experience curriculum that is taught to the required standards, but in a way that is meaningful to her passion and goals. What this may mean is that she will learn English Language Arts standards through reading about business practices, contracts, negotiations, and marketing. Her electives may include foreign language and photography, where she will learn tools to help in her future career. Since she is learning the required standards at each grade level, if she decides to change between grade levels, she can transition to a different school of study. We strongly believe that the time to explore career fields and make changes is while a child has the safety of home and a free education, rather than after three (or more) years of college.

The following are examples of potential passions/interests that students may study while at Elkhart High School. Curriculum and specific pathways are still being developed by our transition principals, counselors, and lead teachers, but these examples provide an idea to how a student may learn to his or her interest.
