On May 7, 2013, the Elkhart Community Schools Board of School Trustees addressed a substantial shortfall in transportation funding by adopting changes that will result in more cost efficient busing of students. Included in the changes are new class times, modified elementary school boundaries, and discontinuation of some special bus routes. Letters have been sent to all parents describing how the changes impact each child.
Student class times for 2013-14 are:
|Middle and High Schools:
School boundaries have changed for the following elementary schools: Bristol, Cleveland, Eastwood, Hawthorne, Mary Beck, Mary Daly, Mary Feeser, Osolo, Riverview, Roosevelt, and Woodland. The new boundaries allow for more efficient bus routes. All elementary school boundary maps can be accessed through the links below.
Roosevelt and Hawthorne Elementary Schools both will serve students in kindergarten through grade 6. This reconfiguration results in the schools being a walkable distance for more of their students.
Special bus routes will be discontinued for approximately 70 students currently receiving bus service as part of a former federal Title I initiative.
Students entering sixth grade in the fall who are impacted by the boundary changes will be allowed to continue attending their current school, pending notification by the parent to Elkhart Community Schools that the student will remain, and with the understanding that bus service will not be provided.
