Over $3.48 million awarded to ECS graduates

This year, Elkhart Community Schools’ senior classes were awarded an estimated $3,489,176.00 in scholarship dollars. The scholarships are still being reported from students and will likely increase in the next few weeks.

Broken down, the school’s estimations are:

  • Elkhart Memorial: $1,294,170.00
  • Elkhart Central: $1,681,206.00
  • Elkhart Area Career Center: $513,800.00 (these scholarships are specifically earned at the career center, outside of the students’ home high schools)

Scholarship dollars can be earned in many ways, including: athletic, college-specific, company-sponsored, industry-specific, merit-based, minority, contests, by major, and by state.

According to our counselors, students should start exploring and focusing on scholarships as early as the beginning of their junior year of high school: the earlier the better! Because scholarships vary depending on the type, students could expect dollar amounts anywhere from $150–$2,000 and sometimes more. Both high school guidance departments maintain lists of scholarships, documentation, and references.

Congratulations to the Class of 2017!
