Meagan Irons, Awards for Excellence
Elkhart Memorial High School senior, Meagan Irons, along with her parents, EACC administrator, counselor, and instructor, will be attending an awards ceremony and luncheon at the Indiana State House in Indianapolis on Thursday, February 8th.She was selected out of 7 students in the area to receive the very prestigious ‘Awards for Excellence’.
Through dedication and passion inside and outside of her Medical Assisting program at the Elkhart Area Career Center, she was chosen out of 10 other career center student candidates to represent EACC. Megan is one of the state winners of the Awards for Excellence, the highest honor for CTE education in the state. Meagan is a second year Elkhart Area Career Center student participating in the Medical Assisting Program.
Meagan, who was introduced to the medical field at her high school class, Health Careers, saw the career center as an opportunity to pursue further education in the health field.
Kathy Byrd, EACC Counselor, “We identified the top Seniors based on a required minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.” Students who qualified were required to have a letter of recommendation from a school counselor or administrator, former or current teacher, employer, or church-related individual, transcript, and the student’s EACC instructor had to write a letter of support for their student. These students moved forward to the next level of screening, “we then assembled a group of support team individuals who reviewed the 10 packets of information and identified Meagan Irons as the top qualifier based on her credentials, community service. CTE Skill proficiency, GPA, personal essay, and letters of recommendation.”
Kathy Overholt, Medical Assisting Teacher comments on Meagan’s notable work ethic: “Meagan is a very hard working lady not only in school but in the community.”
Meagan will graduate this year with her certificate in Medical assisting and Ivy Tech college credit. She is already taking evening college classes at Bethel College where she will attend in the fall for nursing school.
